My 5 Month Microlocs Update

Describe your loc journey so far in one word: Growing
How have things been overall:
Good! Although this month I wore my marley hair ponytail over my microlocs more times than I’d like to admit, so I’m going to try not to do that as much this month. I’m also finally starting to notice growth in my locs (in terms of length)! It’s most noticeable to me with the two short locs in the front and one on the side.
What is your maintenance routine?
My maintenance routine is pretty much the same. I spray it a 1-2x per day with rose water or my lavender / water mixture depending on how my hair feels and what it needs. My loctician also wants me to keep using the Sisterlocks shampoo (though it’s not my favorite). She recommended mixing it with a little bit of real lemon juice (which she says is supposed to help the hair lock faster).

Have their been any challenges with your locs this month?
Yes, I noticed a few locs in the crown area that look like they thinned a bit at the base (picture below). I pointed this out to my loctician (as well as a few other super tiny locs I was concerned about), and we ended up combining a few more. In the crown area, there are a couple of spots where my hair is breaking away from the locs. Not sure what’s causing this, but going to watch it closely, as my loctician said my locs were perfect when I came for my first retie.

What will you do address those challenges?
I’m going to try to manipulate my locs a lot less and leave them alone so that they can do their thing. I’m also going to make sure I keep my crown area very moisturized.

Nope!
When is your next retie?
In two weeks! We’re going to try a 4 week maintenence schedule going forward, so we’ll see how that goes this month, and if there’s enough growth to relock.
How much money did you spend on hair products this month?
$13.69 on my Heritage Store Rose Water which I put on auto-replenish every other month.
