5 Modern-Day Microlocs and Sisterlocks Creators To Follow in 2024
Let’s break the stereotype. Though Microlocs and Sisterlocks used to be more common amongst older generations, times are changing. They are not just for older women in their 50s and 60s. Microlocs can be for everyone.
Here’s a list of our favorite Microlocs and Sisterlocks creators who are pioneering the next generation of loc’d ladies. What we love is how, despite having very different microloc installation methods, they all look incredibly beautiful. Ifeyinwa began her microlocs journey in 2021 on fine, curly natural hair. She got them installed in Nigeria and the process took ~7 hours to complete with 3 locticians working on her hair at once. Kendra started her microlocs in 2018 with very small two-strand twists and she installed them by herself. She continues to share her journey on YouTube, including maintenance, styling, and the retightening process. She also sells fun hairstyling accessories such as loc sprinkles and loc beads.

Janelle B. Stewart was an early influencer during the natural hair care movement and established her Sisterlocks in 2018 because she wanted to reclaim her time and seek freedom. She chose Sisterlocks over traditional locs due to the versatility of the style. It took her Sisterlocks Consultant 53 hours to complete over 4 days!
